기록된 삶, 그려진 초상 그리고 대화
〈AI 방앗간〉은 2024년 사전 연구 자료와 평택 아카이브 데이터를 바탕으로, 평택 미군기지와 관련된 6인의 인터뷰 일부를 발췌하여 AI 영상으로 재구성한 작업이다. 개인의 목소리와 AI로 생성된 인물의 초상을 결합하여 마을의 기억을 다시 소환하고, 이를 과거 방앗간이 지녔던 지역 소통의 문화적 기능과 연결해 바라본다. 관람자는 AI 인물들이 나누는 대화를 따라 과거를 상상하고, ‘나의 평택’ 속 소소한 삶의 장면들을 떠올린다. 이 경험은 오래전 동네 방앗간에서 이웃들과 담소를 나누던 정서적 풍경 속에서, 나의 현재와 미래가 자연스럽게 겹쳐지고 이어지는 시간여행 또는 가상의 현실과도 같다. 프로그램이 진행되는 2층 공간은 전시 기간 동안 개인의 작은 ‘타임캡슐’로 기능하며, 관람자가 자신의 이야기를 글과 그림으로 남길 수 있는 참여형 공간으로 운영된다. 이곳에서 새롭게 수집된 이야기는 프로젝트 온라인 사이트를 통해 소개된다.
<AI Clubhouse> is an AI video-based project that reconstructs excerpts from six interviews related to the U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, using materials drawn from the 2024 preliminary research and the Pyeongtaek archive. By combining each speaker’s recorded voice with AI-generated portraits, the work summons personal and collective memories of the town, reconnecting them to the cultural role once held by the traditional ‘Bang At Gan’ (local mill) that functioned as a communal hub for everyday conversation and exchange.
As viewers follow the dialogues of the AI-generated figures, they are invited to imagine the past and recall small moments from their own “Pyeongtaek.” The experience echoes a kind of time travel or virtual reality-an emotional return to the atmosphere of an old village mill, where one’s present and future quietly overlap through shared stories.
The second floor project space functions as a small personal “time capsule” throughout the exhibition period, offering a participatory space where visitors can leave their own stories in writing or drawing. These newly collected records will be shared through the project’s online archive.
